Carver Park Reserve

Meeting Place:

In the parking lot in front of the Lowry Nature Center.

Note:  Parking is FREE at Three Rivers Park District locations.

Route:
The park has various trails covering many distances.  Most are out and backs with small loops along the way.  All runs begin and end at the Lowry Nature Center parking lot.

Eastern Bike/Hike Trail:
Run south on Nature Center Drive (the entrance road), to the first paved trail entrance on the left.  Continue on the paved trail, ignoring the initial left-hand turn.  The trail then crosses three (3) dirt roads.  Turn right at the 'T' and run back to Nature Center Drive.  Turn right at the road and finish in the parking lot.  The distance has been  measured at 5.29 miles.

Western Bike/Hike Trail (Short Loop):
Run south on Nature Center Drive (the entrance road), to the 2nd paved trail entrance on the left.  This trail quickly crosses County Road 11.  Run left at the 'T' and continue to the Picnic Area/paved road.  Turn right on the paved road and continue to the first trail entrance on the right.  Turn left at the 'T' and run back to the Lowry nater Center parking lot.  The distance has been measured as 5.33 miles.

Nature Trail:
You might want to take along a map as it's relatively easy to get lost on these trails.  However, trails leading back to the Lowry Nature Center are clearly marked.
Run the outside loop:  Lake, Tamarack (don't miss the boardwalk), Aspen, Oak, Maple (Cattail).  The estimated distance is 3 miles.

Other Things to Know:
Carver Park Reserve is a little used great location for running.

Note:  The Nature Center is often closed during prime running hours.  A portable toilet is located in the parking lot.  Bring your own fluids.

Western Bike/Hike Trail (Long Loop):
The Wetern Bike/Hile Trail can be made  considerably longer (and hillier) than the short loop listed above by including the horse trails.  We recommend you take along a map as the trail (and directions) can be confusing.
Run south on Nature Center Drive to the 2nd paved trail entrance on the left.  This trail quickly crosses County Road 11.  Run left at the 'T'.  Leave the paved trail and join the horse trail at the overlook on the left.  Bear right through the overlook and run down the hill.  Take the left fork  and run to the (dirt) Carver Park Road.  Turn right on Carver Park Road.  Cross the road and rejoin the horse trail just before the parking area for the King Blind.  The trail will turn right and run parallel to County Road 5.  Turn right just before the first cross road.  Bear left on the open field at the top of the incline.  Stay left at the next fork and continue to  the Picnic Area/Paved Road.  Turn right on the paved road and continue to the first trail entrance on the right.  Turn left at the 'T' and run back to the Lowry Nature Center parking lot.  The distance is estimated at 7-9 miles.
